A Hybrid T2 Puts Jetour's Off-Road Technology List to the Test

Jetour's 24 October release names XWD four-wheel drive, the GAIA architecture and C-DM hybrid technology and gives no specification for any of them. An independent road test of the plug-in T2 in South Africa describes a front-wheel-drive car its reviewer did not consider an adventure vehicle.

Jetour's 24 October press release names three technologies for its 2026 Global Technology Experience Day in Wuhu and Moganshan: XWD four-wheel drive with "7+X one-touch modes", the GAIA all-terrain architecture and C-DM hybrid technology. It also cites the group's work in AI, intelligent driving, smart cabins and AiMOGA robotics. It gives a specification, a test result or a named engineer for none of them. An independent road test of the plug-in T2, published by Business Day in South Africa on 20 October, covers one of Jetour's hybrid products, and its findings sit awkwardly beside the off-road pitch.

This matters for how far Jetour's off-road claims can be taken at face value. The vehicles exist and can be tested. The independent test that exists measures the part of the range built for fuel economy and finds it good at that. Whether the off-road systems named in the release perform as described has no public independent answer in the sources reviewed here.

What the Release Claims and What It Leaves Out

The release says XWD offers "7+X one-touch modes" and does not define them. It names the G700 for premium comfort with off-road capability and the T1 and T2 for urban and light off-road use, and lists roof tents and onboard refrigerators among ecosystem equipment. No power, torque, ground clearance, wading depth or approach angle appears.

Other Jetour material carries more numbers, all from the company. CarNewsChina reported on 23 June that the F700 plug-in pickup is claimed to reach 45.5 per cent thermal efficiency, a 1,300 km range and 1.39 litres per 100 km, and attributed the fuel figure to "certified regulatory data" without naming a test cycle. CarNewsChina and paultan.org describe the G700 as a full-size, body-on-frame plug-in hybrid with 892 horsepower (904 PS) from a 2.0-litre turbo engine and electric motors. AutoIndustriya reports that the i-DM hybrid system on the T-series is based on Chery Group's C-DM technology. None of these figures has been tested independently in the sources reviewed here. BriefAsia covers the pricing case for Jetour's upmarket plan.

What an Independent Test Found

Denis Droppa, Business Day's group motoring editor, tested the T2 1.5T i-DM plug-in hybrid in South Africa. It is front-wheel drive only and lists at R779,900, the dearest T2. The petrol all-wheel-drive models cost R639,900 to R704,900. Droppa wrote that the plug-in is "not a genuine adventure vehicle" despite its boxy styling and raised ground clearance. He added that the petrol all-wheel-drive T2, with 220 mm of ground clearance and an electronic rear limited-slip differential, can handle mild off-road use but has no low-range gearing.

Fuel use was the strength. The plug-in averaged 6.5 litres per 100 km in mixed driving, against 10.1 for the petrol all-wheel-drive T2 Odyssey 2.0T that the same publication tested. The claimed electric range is 90 km. Performance was less even. Droppa reported hesitation and surging under hard acceleration, and Vbox runs at the Gerotek test facility ranged from 8.9 seconds to nearly 11 seconds for 0 to 100 km/h. The air conditioning stopped working after a few days in his test car. Interior fit and finish felt premium to him, and he singled out the metal climate switches. Jetour backs the car with a seven-year or 200,000 km warranty and an eight-year or 160,000 km hybrid battery warranty. Droppa said he would choose the petrol version.

A Single Month in Malaysia

paultan.org lists the Malaysian T2 i-DM plug-in at RM162,800 with 360 PS and 610 Nm, a different specification from the 1.5-litre front-wheel-drive car Droppa tested. Road transport department data reported by paultan.org shows 342 of the new plug-in among 1,248 T2 registrations in September. That is about 27 per cent of T2 registrations in one month, and no source says how owners use them.

Where the Evidence Runs Out

One reviewer tested one car in one market, and a front-wheel-drive plug-in does not stand for the all-wheel-drive T2 or the G700. Jetour says the T2 leads boxy SUV sales in nine markets, a claim Automotive World reported from the company without unit counts. Nothing in these sources tests the XWD modes named in the release, the GAIA architecture or the G700 off-road, and the company has published no figures that an outside engineer could reproduce. The absence of a test is not evidence that the hardware falls short.

What to Watch

Three checks will settle more than any release. An independent test of an all-wheel-drive Jetour hybrid, or of the G700, on a published off-road route would test the XWD claims directly. A named test cycle published for the F700's 45.5 per cent thermal efficiency would turn a company figure into a comparable one. Jetour Malaysia's monthly plug-in share, reported by paultan.org from road transport department data, will show whether September's ratio holds.

Until a named test cycle accompanies the F700 figure, it is a manufacturer claim.
